Master Chorale to Honor Brumley

Dianne BrumleyThe Master Chorale will have a farewell concert for retiring Director of Choral Studies Dianne Brumley at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 14 at The Arts Center. The concert will feature current and former chorale members. The special weekend will feature a rehearsal from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The Arts Center and a reception from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Cobblehead's on Central Boulevard in Brownsville on Saturday, April 13. The concert is a good time to make a contribution to the Dianne Brumley Endowed Scholarship for Choral Music Excellence established in 2011 in honor of Brumley's choral work in the region and state. Endowment Profile: Carlos Gonzalez

Carlos GonzalezGraduate physics student Carlos Gonzalez of Matamoros, Mexico is doing research on how proteins and DNA interact. Being a recipient of the Center for Gravitational Wave Astronomy Scholarship has enabled Gonzalez, 25, to also teach a University Physics II lab class and tutor three hours a week. Gonzalez said the scholarship has helped him save money and focus more on research. The university has more than 100 endowed scholarships encompassing all colleges and the general student population. The deadline for students to apply for endowed scholarships for summer sessions is Monday, April 1 and for fall and spring semester it is Saturday, June 1. Mariachi Ocelotetlan Invited to Russia

MariachiMariachi Ocelotetlan has been invited to perform at Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia in St. Petersburg. The ensemble, under the director of Antonio Briseño, will spend a week on their journey from Wednesday, May 15 to Wednesday, May 22. The ensemble will share its unique sound with students and residents of historical St. Petersburg at a time when summer has finally arrived and the city will be alive with White Nights festivities.
