July 2012 David GarciaDr. Soumya Mohanty, an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, was recently recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and other organizations in the "C2i Gaming Challenge: Developing New Ways to Use Game-Based Learning to Help Students Achieve." His idea of using video games to teach physics was selected as one of 10 suggestions nationally that could take advantage of new technology in education. Watch Mohanty talk about his work.

UTeach LogoThe UTeach Brownsville program in the College of Science, Mathematics and Technology is seeking students majoring in science or mathematics to receive teacher certification while earning their degrees.


July 2012 Dr. William SerrataAlumnus William Serrata has been selected as the next President of El Paso Community College. Serrata has a master's degree from the university and once worked in the Office of Enrollment Services. He is a  1987 graduate of Brownsville Pace High School. Before moving to El Paso, Serrata had been the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at South Texas College in McAllen. More arrowMore


July 2012 David GarciaDavid Garcia, a graduate student in exercise science from San Benito, recently attended the American College of Sports Medicine's 59th Annual Meeting and 3rd Congress on Exercise in Medicine in California. He received a monetary award from the university's Annual Fund: UTB Fund for Excellence to help pay for some of the trip.
